Free Farm Maps Available Now 08/02/2013
Few farmers or consultants in England are aware that electronic versions of the Single Farm Payment Scheme maps can now be freely obtained from the RPA. By electronic, we do not mean as a PDF file but in a GIS format that can be used with a suitable mapping system to measure areas, split fields, combine fields, plan environmental protection schemes such as ELS and HLS, show cropping, prepare waste management plans etc. By overlaying the RPA maps onto Ordnance Survey data or Google Earth images, the farm can be seen in the context of the local area making the combined map ideal for use with contractors, visitors and suppliers.
Having accurate, informative maps readily available is a huge benefit to the farming industry as a whole and to help realize this benefit, Pear Technology have adapted their well-established, highly popular farm mapping software, PT-Mapper, to automatically read the RPA data and display the results showing the field boundaries, parcel numbers and the areas in hectares.
